About Us
What is Apna Heritage?
Apna Heritage is a UK-based charity which celebrates our rich South-Asian heritage, particularly from the upper Indus Valley region, greater Punjab and Jammu-Kashmir. We focus initially on the Mirpur area and its surroundings, offering a vibrant exploration of arts, culture, history, language, and genealogy.
‘Apna’ means ‘our’ and is deeply connected with the soul, while ‘heritage’ refers to what we are pass forward. Our mission is to document the past with an unbiased perspective, sharing stories that shape our communities and providing a trusted resource for anyone seeking to understand their roots.

How did we start?
The seed of Apna Heritage was planted when our founders realised that the cherished memories of our elders were at risk of fading away. What started as a personal quest to preserve family stories soon blossomed into a larger mission to rescue forgotten histories. This gradually grew into a thriving social media community and now, a global organisation.

Learn the story of you...
At Apna Heritage, we believe that every individual’s story is a precious piece of the larger narrative that binds us together. Alongside a global community from the subcontinent to Britain, Europe, Australia, America, and beyond, we invite you to join our journey of discovery.
